Drywall & Interior Plaster Pre Construction Checklist:

Prior to the scheduling of the installation of drywall and or gypsum lath panels it is beneficial if the following items are checked.

    - Has all the low voltage wiring been placed in the proper locations?  Check the alarm wiring, speaker locations and associated wiring, the thermostat wiring and the wiring for the garage door openers.

    - Cable television - has the cable been run to the proper locations and terminated in a junction box?

    - Computer / Phone cables - double check all the locations and connections.

    - Check with the ceramic tile subcontractor for all start / stop locations of the drywall or gyplath panels in the bathrooms and kitchen.

    - Check the window reveals.  Are the window frames equal distance at all four sides?  If not, have the carpenter furr out the openings so they are equal distance.

    - Check the medicine cabinet locations.  Has the insulation contractor filled-in the locations with insulation by mistake?  Mark the opening with sixteen penny nails so that drywall or gyplath cannot be installed over the opening.

    - Check that construction covers have been placed over the fire sprinkler heads and the vacuum wall outlet locations.

    - Check that the gas pipe and key valve has been run to the fireplace(s) and installed.

    - Check that the framing subcontractor has straight edged the framing members.  A) Check the accuracy of alignment and position of framing – Industry standard tolerances are as follows: light gauge steel framing = 1/8" +/- in any eight foot radius. Wood product framing = 3/8" +/- in any eight foot radius  B) Check for protrusions of blocking, bridging, piping and twisted studs and joists.  C) Window reveals  D) Backing for the drywall / gyplath, handrails and plumbing fixtures

    - Check that all the ceiling light fixtures, H.V.A.C. vents and fire sprinkler heads are in balance. (for aesthetic purposes line up & balance reveals left and right, check that you have equal distance to other design features or the corners of the room)

    - Check that nailing plates have been placed over all the exposed piping and wiring.  Caution do not use "cheap" (as in thin, imported, pot metal plates)  nailing protection plates.  We are using hardened steel drywall screws 1 1/4" inches long, and if you use cheap pot metal nailing plates, we will screw right thru them.

    - Check that the insulation subcontractor has trimmed back the insulating foam from all framing faces, door and window frame faces, and at the floor plate line. Failure to trim back the excess insulating foam will cause the drywall or gyplath to bulge.

    - Check that all building materials, cabinets, doors, etc. have been removed from the building and stored out of the way of the ceiling and wall contractor.

    - Check that all safety railings are in place, openings in the floor's have been covered , and all other safety concerns have been met.

    - Broom clean the floors.

    - once you make the call for drywall or gyplath installers, get out of the way (the installers really move fast).
